Small, Yet Meaningful Interactions

For the Olive Tree Writing Club, we usually serve coffee and baked goods as part of the weekly event.

A day before the event, there’s a farmers market in Union Square where I normally buy the pastries. I’ll arrive at around 5 PM just before they close and buy everything they have left at a discount. I get plenty of goods for cheap and they can also wrap up early without wasting any goods. After a few weeks, they got used to seeing me clear out their baked goods at the end of the day.

But sometimes, when a friend is hosting the event, I’ll just ask them to pick up pastries at whatever bakery is most convenient.

I did this for a few weeks and when I finally returned to the farmers market, the first thing they said to me was, Hey, where have you been? We’ve been saving you some baked goods, but we didn’t see you the past few weeks.”

I thought that was really sweet of them.
