A Few Notes on Fashion
Back in 2020 before the pandemic, I bumped into a good friend from high school at the gym. I haven’t seen him for years and he said to me, “You look exactly the same.” And he’s right, even after half a decade, there haven’t been much changes to my style or physical appearance at the time.
Ever since then, there’s been much cognitive dissonance as my external appearence did not match my internal state. As I mentioned a few times now, one of my goals this summer is refreshing my wardrobe. Here are a few thoughts on fashion:
- Who you are affects how you dress, and how you dress affects who you are.
- Unless you’re a nudist, fashion is an art that you participate in whether you like it or not.
- When it comes to fashion, your clothes, accessories, and swagger is the canvas.
- The best outfits are the ones that are most authentic to you. It’s unique, and because you’re doing you, it’s original.
- How you dress affects how people perceive you, and how you perceive yourself.
- Outfits become interesting when they tell a story. Wear items that have a special meaning to you; a watch that belonged to your grandfather, a bracelet you got on your trip to South America, or a ring that marks your graduation. Stories make an outfit memorable.
- Everyone has great style. You just need to find it.
