David Greybeard
David Greybeard is the name that famed primatologist, Jane Goodall, gave her favorite chimpanzee.
Initially, in Goodall’s time in Tanzania she had a difficult time gaining trust within the chimp community. They all ran when they saw her.
Greybeard was the first chimp to trust her, opening up the door for her acceptance into the rest of the community. This paved the way for Goodall’s groundbreaking research.
He was the first chimp Jane observed to use tools, previously thought of as a defining human trait.
This was one of Goodall’s most important findings. This discovery redefined what it meant to be human.
