Delegating to Your Peers
Before, I thought that you could only delegate to your direct reports, it never crossed my mind that I can delegate sideways to peers on the same level. Shreyas, one of my favorite product thinkers, talks about how to successfully do this.
In short, it’s about being collaborative. It’s not about me needing to get something done and asking someone else to do it. It’s about having an honest conversation with your peer about their priorities, your priorities, and the priorities of the business, and figuring out who’s in the best position to tackle this work. Delegating to your peers is a form of influencing without authority. This skill can lead to better outcomes as well as better work-life balance.
