Genderless Clothing
In my philosophy, the word androgyny doesn’t have any meaning. I think there is no difference between men and women. We are different in body, but sense, spirit and soul are the same. - Yohji Yamamoto
It’s the role of an artist to make us question the status quo in order to progress as a culture. Yohji Yamamoto, a legendary Japanese fashion designer, does just that.
Through his work, Yohji challenged gender norms through his initial idea to put women in men’s style clothes. He designed coats for women that completely covered and wrapped them as he said to protect them from the cold or men’s prying eyes.
