Heimskur

The Icelandic word for “stupid” is “heimskur”. “Heima” means home, someone who has never left home is “heimskur” - stupid.

You can’t see your own culture while you’re inside of it. I understood this the first time I left Toronto to live in a different city. Every new culture I immerse myself in, I learn more about which aspects of my personality come from my environment.

Some people ask me if I can travel anywhere where would I go?

I don’t have a specific answer but I want to go somewhere that’s culturally different than the West. Probably somewhere in Asia or Africa.

I’ve never travelled without my family outside of North America, but I wonder what I’ll learn as I venture farther from the nest.
