New York City Will Break Your Heart

Today was my close friend’s last day in NYC. We had dinner together at a Thai restaurant near my place. For dessert, we ordered mango sticky rice as recommended by the owner. My friend asked them if they had a candle, it was his last evening in the city and this was his send-off. They gave us a candle, sticked it into the mango dessert, and lit the candle for us. While the candle was lit, my friend reminisced on some of his fond memories over the past 5 years of living in the city. He then blew the candle. It’s the end of this era, and the start of a new one for him.

For the past two and a half years, I’ve got to meet so many kind, ambitious people in the city. In that time, I’ve had many friends leave the city too. The transience of New York is both its beauty and its curse.
