On Content Curation
Every week or so, I’ll share “Things I’ve enjoyed recently,” a collection of blog posts, videos, music, anything that peaked my interest. My friend jokingly called me out one day saying that he knows I’m having an off day when I publish one of those pieces. While I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a cop-out, on the other hand, I see my role as much a curator of ideas as a writer.
I’m big into ideas. I’m constantly in search of non-obvious, perspective shifting ideas. This is why I write after all. The act of curating a list of favourite things every week is a creative pulse check. Today for example, I felt like keeping my blog post short and sharing a few things I enjoyed recently. Then I realized I didn’t have anything to share; my content diet hasn’t been inspiring lately. Lots of scrolling feeds, lots of YouTube rabbit holes. Less essays, podcasts, and books. This observation leads to a course correction in my content diet. Hopefully, I’ll have more to share next week.
