On Golf
Golf was the Aquaman of sports as a kid. Compared to other sports I enjoyed like Basketball and Soccer, it looked much less physically demanding. It was boring to watch. And it was inaccessible; I didn’t know a single kid growing up that played golf. Though I might add that it was my favourite game in Wii Sports.
Now, no matter the sport, I have an appreciation for the craft. Here are a few thoughts on golf:
- While golf may not seem like it, it’s a physically demanding and extremely technical sport. Anyone who has tried it out themselves know.
- It’s the most expensive sport to play.
- It’s an amazing way to network. When you’re playing a round of golf, it can take up to four hours. It’s usually played in small groups. And there’s lots of walking/driving. There’s plenty of opportunity for conversation during that time.
- Golf attracts a certain type of person. Many older, wealthy people play the sport. Likely because of the slower pace, the exclusivity of certain golf clubs, and the relationship building aspect.
