On Oversized Clothing Revisited
One indicator of growth is a change of opinion, and one benefit of writing daily is revisiting old blog posts and seeing how my opinion has changed over time.
In the past year, I’ve learned and developed my taste in fashion. Back in November, I wrote a blog post on oversized clothing, one of the hottest trends right now, and why it wasn’t for me. Since then, I’ve experimented with looser, more relaxed silhouettes, and my perspective shifted. One of my favorite pairs of pants is a high-waisted pleated wool pant that I got at a vintage store.
In 2023, I frequently wrote about my preference for timeless, classic pieces and my embrace of slow fashion over trends. However, my perspective has evolved since then, and I now believe that trends have their place alongside timeless pieces.
Trends in fashion are fun to follow as they offer opportunities for experimentation, and are a reflection of the culture at the time. Baggy fits have become popular due to a shift away from the slim and skinny styles favored by millennials. Gen Z, seeking a departure from their parents’ preferences, has embraced oversized and bold trends. Fashion trends often circle back, so it is possible that Generation Alpha may see a resurgence in slimmer fits in the future.
