Pavlovian Response
This morning, I received a notification from my phone while I was meditating. My initial response was to instantly check my phone. I managed to resist the temptation but I noticed how my body and mind reacted to this. I felt a rush of endorphins when I heard the ring from my phone. When I didn’t check my phone quickly I felt anxious, like I didn’t get my fix.
I’ve trained my mind and body to look for pleasure whenever I hear that ring.
Phone addiction is a huge issue in today’s society. It’s widespread, and I’d argue that it’s more detrimental over an individual’s lifetime than a cigarette addiction.
This is epecially concerning as there’s a generation of kids being raised on these skinner boxes.
