Physical Books are Overrated
Before getting a Kindle, I romanticized the experience of reading a physical book. The tactile sensation of turning pages, the satisfaction of watching the bookmark progress through the book, and adding the book to my physical library.
While I still like reading physical books, I prefer reading books on a Kindle now. Here are a few reasons:
- I have access to my entire digital library on my Kindle device. I can easily carry my Kindle with me in my bag and read any book from my digital library.
- The Kindle mobile app allows me to seamlessly sync my reading progress across my Kindle device and phone. This means I can continue reading on my phone’s Kindle app without needing to bring my Kindle with me. The app effectively turns my smartphone into an e-reader, providing me the convenience of accessing my Kindle library on the go.
- I’m reading a paperback copy of Pachinko before bed, but my bedside lamp is broken. As a result, I have to read with the bedroom light on, which is not a pleasant experience. Instead, I just end up not reading the book at all. In contrast, I find it much easier to read on my Kindle when it’s dark.
- The Kindle offers features like built-in dictionaries and the ability to highlight and take notes.
