The Third Rail

The third rail is a method to provide electrical power to trains and locomotives. Because of the electric current running through this rail, it can potentially be deadly if touched.

The third rail is a term also used to describe topics that are controversial, or shouldn’t be touched. For example, up until recently, abortion rights were considered a “third rail” issue.
