To Define is to Limit

I live on Earth at present, and I don’t know what I am. I know that I am not a category. I am not a thing — a noun. I seem to be a verb, an evolutionary process — an integral function of the universe. - R. Buckminster Fuller

People will always try to label you: You’re a Liberal, you’re a dentist, you’re a Catholic. Labeling makes it easier for us to understand each other and how to communicate.

However, labels limit who we are and who we become. For example, when something threatens this identity, many of us become defensive. We see this behavior often especially in Religious debates.

I, for one, think we are much more interesting than mere labels. I don’t want a label to define me, and neither should you.
