When Should I Start Promoting?
When building a community, there comes a point in which you face the dilemma of focusing on improving or promotion.
Here’s a simple answer: if your guests share your community and events with friends, you can start promoting. If they aren’t sharing it, then focus on improving the community. Try improving the structure of your events, experiment with cadence, and curate the guest list. There are countless variables to play with. At the Olive Tree Writing Club, we iterated on venue, day of the week, event duration, breakout groups sizes, etc. Until we found a formula that works. Once we found a formula that works, then we started our social media and began to share more widely.
Make your event so remarkable, that people can’t help but share it with their friends.
