You Can’t Please Everyone

Last year, when I started facilitating writing club sessions, I was very attuned to the vibe of each member during the meetup. If someone wasn’t having a good time, it’d really bother me. It doesn’t matter if everyone else enjoyed it, I felt as if I failed that one person. This became quite taxing. I would come home from meetups feeling exhausted rather than energized.

But I learned that I can’t please everyone. Even if only a small fraction of those that attend become repeat members, that’s all that’s needed to create a sustainable community. Realizing this was a weight off my shoulders. It put less pressure on me to please everyone because that strategy is bound to fail.
