A Few Thoughts on OTWCs Write-a-Thon

Today, we’re announcing OTWCs Write-a-thon:

Here’s a secret that all writers know: it’s not the writing part that’s hard. What’s hard is sitting down to write.

We want to help you conquer that resistance and get that piece out of you that you’ve always wanted to publish.

That’s why we’re introducing the Write-a-thon: write your piece in one day. The one requirement is everyone has to publish or submit a draft by the end of the day.

In late 2022, we hosted our first Write-a-thon. We wrote from early in the morning to the evening and we hosted various activities such as creative exercises and a slow read of a popular short story. It was well-received and enjoyed by everyone. As a result, we organized a second Write-a-thon just two weeks later.

It has been over a year since our last Write-a-thon. Many OTWC members are currently working on longer pieces and have expressed interest in a longer format event similar to our regular OTWC Wednesday sessions. One of our objectives for the OTWC is to encourage people to publish more than they would have if they didn’t join our community and the Write-a-thon is a natural fit for this.
