Bloom’s Taxonomy of Learning

Bloom’s taxonomy of learning is a tool used by educators to plan their curriculum to encourage higher order levels of thinking with their students.

In today’s day and age, I think this is a great tool for understanding the best methods to self-educate. Writing is one such example. In fact, the word essay” comes from the french verb, essayer”, meaning to explore. Thus, writing long form essays is one of the best ways of exploring a topic in depth and learn at the higher levels of the taxonomy.

This is another reason why I’m an advocate for writing frequently. By writing everyday I learn everyday. I may not come close to the pinnacle of the pyramid through my daily blog, but I hit the middle levels of the taxonomy and that adds up over time.
