Choose One, Max Two Goals

Early in university, I kept failing to hit my goals. I wanted to land an internship, ace my classes, get in shape, build side projects, date more, and get more involved in student clubs all at the same time.

After repeatedly falling short, I noticed the pattern was that I was spreading myself too thin.

But there’s so much I want to do,” I’d tell myself.

Eventually, I realized it’s either I accomplish a few things well, or nothing at all.

I’ve learned that I can manage two goals at a time. Three is pushing it. But if I focus in on just one, I can almost guarantee I’ll accomplish it.

Over the years, I’ve developed a system and routine to accomplish any goal I set for myself.

Every now and then, though, I slip back into overcommitting.

Lately, I’ve felt that happening again, which means it’s time to refocus.
