Coming of Age in the 2010s

I think the timing of when you come of age has a significant impact on your attitude towards life.

I came of age in the 2010s. I couldn’t ask for better decade to grow up in. Especially as someone working in the tech industry, the 2010s was a decade of continuous growth and optimism.

For me it begged the question, is life really this rosy?

There weren’t any significant world events that had a direct negative impact on me. Perhaps this is why me and my immediate circle are so optimistic. However, reading Fred Wilson’s first prediction for the next decade scared the shit out of me. He said that, “the looming climate crisis will be to this century what the two world wars were to the previous one”. By this decade our generation will begin to run for office, we will begin to enter the workforce, and we will begin to lead fortune 500 companies. We will be at the forefront of this issue.

This will be the ultimate challenge of our generation.
