Designing the Room

A friend texted me recently about a blog I wrote earlier this year on designing the candle or designing the room.

If I put this candle in an all white gallery space it looks like a piece of art.

If I put this candle in a garage it looks like a piece of trash.

I can either spend my time designing the candle or I can spend my time designing the room that it sits in. - Virgil Abloh

For years I was focused on designing the candle. For myself, that meant improving my style, getting into the best shape of my life, reading often, journaling, meditating, etc.

This year, my focus is on designing the room. When you realize that you have control over how people perceive you, that’s when you become empowered. Many people don’t actively curate their online presence, but the reality is that nowadays most people will see you online before meeting you in person. Your online presence shapes the first impression you make on others and you have control over that image.

Whether it be trying to attract an opportunity or partner into your life, don’t forget that you can design the room too.
