Discipline Leads to Freedom Revisited

I first wrote about this topic almost four years ago.

I wake up early. I prefer morning workouts. I come back home from the gym, I shower and prepare for work.

During work hours, I’m locked in. Since I don’t usually have morning meetings, I can get most of my work done in the morning, and then have my meetings in the afternoon.

Past 6pm, I don’t check email or slack. I take a walk or take a quick nap to recover from work.

Because I’m disciplined in my professional and personal life, I have the time, the energy, the space to do whatever I want in my free time, guilt-free.

I choose to spend my nights and weekends on my writing life, whether that be writing or organizing my writing community. It’s hard work, but I love it.

In many ways, I feel like I’m living my dream life right now. There’s no means to an end. The work itself is the reward.
