English as a First Language

English as a first language is a privilege that many of us in the West, including myself, take for granted. It’s today’s universal language and lingua franca in business, tourism, etc. English is also the main language of the tech industry. Most coding languages, software tutorials, and documentatio are written in english.

Many pieces of literature, cinema, and music are written or translated into English. One stat says that if you can speak English, you can access 60% of everything published on the web. This means that most people in the world don’t have access to many of these ideas.
