Multi-Generational Projects

In Frank Herbert’s Dune, water is a scarce and precious resource on the planet Arrakis. The natives of Arrakis, the Fremen, are working on a multigenerational project that aims to terraform their planet. They say the project will take six life times to complete, nonethless, everyone is onboard this project for the sake of future generations.

After reading Dune and writing the 10,000 year clock post, I was curious on what multi-generational projects are currently in progress? Alternatively what projects have a long term view?

Here are a couple I can think of:

• Sagrada Familia
• The Theory of Everything
• One Belt One Road
• Svalbard Global Seed Vault
• International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor
• The Land Institutes Perennial Crops
