Maintaining Momentum
Recently, I’ve been feeling less creative. I think this is partly because work has been quite busy over the past week, and much of my creative energy has been directed towards my job. When work gets busy, I tend to skip workouts, and when I skip workouts, it starts to negatively impact other areas of my life.
When I finish a long work day when I had more than five hours of meetings, sometimes I don’t have the energy after work to write a long-form piece or organize my next event.
What’s great about a daily writing practice is that it doesn’t depend on my mood or motivation, I’ll show up whether I feel like it or not. I’ve been writing every day for almost five years now, and I’ve experienced plenty of creative dry spells during that time. However, maintaining momentum is crucial, as these dry periods are always temporary. Showing up to write, regardless of how I feel, has been key to sustaining my practice over the long term.
