On Coffee

Before moving to New York, I rarely drank coffee. I thought it was an expensive habit that I didn’t need because I could stay awake and be productive without it.

After living here for nearly a year, I now drink coffee 3-4 times a week. I visit the same cafe to order my usual coffee at 8 in the morning and stay for a few hours to work. Every time I have coffee, I’m notably more productive.

Instead of considering the cost of a coffee as an expense, I view it as an investment in my productivity. For only $4 I can enjoy three hours of highly productive work, surpassing what I would achieve without it.

It’s easy to understand why some people become dependent on coffee. It gives us a burst of energy that makes us feel like we can achieve more. When I don’t have coffee, I notice a decrease in productivity.

I can understand why some people become dependent on coffee. It gives a burst of energy needed to get through the day. This is why I limit my coffee consumption to max 4x a week. This way I still get the benefits of coffee without relying on it.
