“You waste years by not being able to waste hours.” - Amos Tversky
This is a confession from a former productivity porn addict.
Productivity is overrated.
Productivity porn had me thinking that I need to always be hustling. I need to always be working, learning, and doing. As a result, before I would schedule every hour of my day, I’d always say I’m busy, I’d listen to podcasts every minute I could.
Now, I find productivity takes away from prescence. Productivity takes away from serendipity. Productivity takes away from boredom. All of these things I think are just as important if not more important than productivity.
Productivity isn’t inherently bad, but it needs to be used in moderation and with focus. Productivity without focus gives the illusion of work when in fact it’s just blind activity.
