Specific Compliments

What are traits that you admire from your friends?

This was a prompt that my friends and I discussed over some Mexican food earlier today.

One trait mentioned was specific compliments. General compliments like “you’re beautiful” or “you have a nice smile” are broad. They can be said to everyone. But the best and most memorable compliments are specific. Specific compliments are unique and personal.

For instance, I complimented my friends ability to curate groups and bring people together using the writing group he created as an example. I could’ve said “you’re a people person” and leave it at that, but that’s not specific or memorable.

Next time I give a compliment, I’ll give a specific one instead of a general one.
