Strategic Losses

In typical Waterloo Engineering fashion, last week I had many assignments due on top of a final round interview for an internship I wanted.

In past semesters, I’d try to do everything. I’d work on my assignments while also preparing for interviews, spreading myself thin while sacrificing sleep. This didn’t work out too well.

So I decided to take strategic losses.

It was clear that preparing for the interview was my first priority, and you can never overprepare for an opportunity like this. School was a lower priority and I did well on previous assessments so I had a cushion grades wise. So I decided to deliberately skip out on an assignment for one course and I asked my group members if they can cover me for my assignment in another course.

Now, I had time to focus exclusively on preparing for my interview.

Sometimes we have to lose the battle in order to win the war.
