Study Web

Recently, some of my favorite YouTubers are channels like JScholz and MDProspect where they share study with me videos, studying livestreams, and content focused on doing well in school. Not to mention the lofi streams, discord servers, and Tik Tok influencers all apart of what Fadeke Adegbuyi coined as the Study Web.

Personally, as I’m currently enrolled in remote classes, watching these videos and livestreams are a substitute for the environment I get on campus at Waterloo. I know others feel the same, as evident by the rise of study web.

While the intent behind study web is positive, it underlies an anxiety about grades and achievement, promotes hustle culture, and increases competition amongst students specifically for exams and college admissions.
