Terroir

Understanding the location where a grape is grown - the soil, climate, the water, the tradition - is important for determining the taste profile of a wine. These characteristics that describe the region where a grape was grown is known as Terroir. That’s why during wine tasting, they always mention the grape’s origin. Grapes grown in California versus Italy will have unique flavors influenced by their environment.

Similarly, the culture, the people, and the environment I grew up in influenced who I am today. Growing up in the suburbs of Toronto, to Filipino parents, that’s my Terroir.
