The First Mens Fashion Show

Giovanni Battista Giorgini was an Italian Businessman and Fashion pioneer. After WWII, Italy was in need of revitalization and Giorgini recognized the potential of bringing Italian fashion to the world.

In 1951, he organized the first ever menswear fashion show at his home in Florence. Already a successful businessman, he leveraged his connections to bring top American buyers from department stores Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue and attracted press from Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar for his show.

At the time, there was a hunger for new fashion ideas beyond Paris, which has dominated the industry for decades. Giorigini’s show displayed the craftsmanship, luxurious fabrics, and unique tailoring that was different from Parisian fashion.

The success of his show helped bring Italian designers to the world and cemented Italy as one of the world’s fashion hubs.
