The Times Are a-Changin’

In 2018, I watched Crazy Rich Asians, a movie that was unlike any I had seen before as it featured a predominantly Asian cast, something I had never seen in a major film.

In 2020, I witnessed the South Korean movie, Parasite, become the first non-English film to win an Oscar for Best Picture.

In 2021, I watched the first Asian Marvel Super Hero, Shang Chi, played by an actor that grew up in the suburb next to mine.

Today, Everything Everywhere All at Once, a movie with a predominantly Asian cast, swept the Oscars.

I remember before Crazy Rich Asians came out, there was doubt whether a predominately Asian cast can produce a blockbuster hit. Well, as Bob Dylan said, the times are a-changin’. Asians in Hollywood are here to stay.
