The Unwinnable Lottery
The Diversity Visa Program famously known as the green card lottery is a program in the United States that grants green cards to applicants from countries with low numbers of immigrants. The lottery is entirely random and in 2019, 55 thousand were selected for green cards out of a pool of 12 million. In other words, the odds of winning were 0.005%.
This lead some to call the green card lottery unwinnable.
Yet, we all play a similar lottery at birth. We don’t choose what country we are born in, it’s given to us. And I couldn’t be luckier being born in Canada.
