Travelling is like Being a Kid Again

This morning I had a bus ride from Bogotá to Medellin. My ride was scheduled for 10am and I arrived at the bus terminal at 9:50. I was completely lost at this terminal, I couldn’t understand the signs and no one spoke english. When I asked the man at the information desk I had to speak like a baby: using hand gestures and exaggerated expressions. My go to Spanish phrases being no hablo español” and no entiendo”, my lack of Spanish requiring patience from the other party.

While this is just one example, I found that travelling, especially travelling solo to a foreign country demands humility, dependence, curiosity, and vulnerability, just like a child.
