True Fandom

I’ve been thinking of Kevin Kelly’s idea of 1000 true fans: that you don’t need a million customers or fans to sustain yourself as a creator, only one thousand true fans. A true fan in this case is a fan that would buy anything you produce.

It had me thinking of what I’m a true fan of. Here’s what comes to mind:

I’ve been a fan of Derek Sivers for 5 years now, a fan of Nujabes for nearly a decade, a fan of One Piece for more than a decade, and a Raptors fan my entire life.

Becoming a true fan is a very threshold, one that can take years to develop.
