US Involvement in Afghanistan

On May 1st 2021, NATO agreed to start withdrawing troops from Afghanistan. Shortly after withdrawing troops, the Taliban launched an offensive against crumbling Afghan government forces. As I’m writing this, the Taliban have declared victory in Afghanistan after taking over the capital city, Kabul.

Earlier today, the president fleed the country as civilians, government officials, and foreign diplomats are scrambling to evacuate.
