The Two Triumphs

Previously, I reflected on the two tragedies, one of my favorite quotes.

There’s only two tragedies in this world. Not getting what you want and getting what you want - Oscar Wilde

I think this is a glass half empty interpretation. Instead, I prefer to invert it:

There’s only two triumphs in this world. Getting what you want and not getting what you want.

It’s obvious why getting what you want is a triumph. Achieving a goal that you’ve been dreaming about and working towards whether it be a romantic interest, a prestigious school, or a job feels euphoric.

But why is not getting what you want a triumph? Because it’s these experiences that teach us. It’s through failure that we become humbled and where we grow.
