Revisiting Morning Pages

This past week, I haven’t made much progress on growing my Twitter or menswear newsletter. I missed the last two Sundays, which is when I usually publish my weekly post.

I could say my job is picking up. I could say I had a busy social week. But the truth is, I still had plenty of time to execute.

One thing I’ve realized is that I sometimes spend too much time reflecting and strategizing instead of actually executing. I’m a big journaler, but sometimes you just have to take action.

One conclusion I’ve come to is that I want to bring back morning pages—the method popularized by Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way. The idea is simple: first thing in the morning, before checking your phone or consuming anything, you write three pages of stream-of-consciousness thoughts. I did this daily a few years ago and benefited greatly from it.

Lately, my mind has felt cluttered, and I think this could help me clear my head and work through problems so I can spend the rest of the day executing.

I’ll experiment with it again this week and see how it goes.
